John Walsh

John Walsh is an expert in Arctic climate, weather, climate change adaptation and sea ice. He specializes in climate modeling, addressing regional vulnerabilities, as well as downscaling models, designing research studies, and developing, testing, and evaluating research information products and tools.

Walsh has a scholarly record of over 300 peer-reviewed publications, and is one of the most authoritative experts in modern Arctic climate change. Over his career he has authored numerous climate change reports including sections of the Arctic Report Card, State of the Climate, National Climate Assessment, IPCC, and was co-lead of the Climate Expert Group of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme. Walsh has received various prestigious awards including the 2022 Mohn Prize, the 2016 International Arctic Science Committee Medal, 2009 Emil Usibelli Distinguished Research Award, and was named President’s Professor of Global Change at UAF in 2001.

During his tenor at ACCAP, Walsh served several leadership roles including co-director and co-investigator. He continues to engage in various aspects of ACCAP’s work.
